Why we have a happy marriage

We are madly in love with one another. We can finish one another’s sentences and are happiest when we are together. It doesn’t matter if we are on a bike ride, grocery shopping, playing tennis, hiking, gardening or cooking together. Being together is the absolute best part of our day. One of the reasons we love spending time together is because we are best friends as well as lovers. That bedrock friendship lays the foundation of our relationship.

Any relationship is going to take quality time and focusing on the other person. When we put our own needs secondary to the one we love, it enables the relationship to deepen. As we forged our way through dating, we realized more and more that friends of ours didn’t have the level of happiness and love as we did. Not being judgmental in any way but what we had was just more. What we have today is bliss.

One way we keep our love front and center is choosing to eat our meals together. We love health and nutrition so cooking new recipes together make us happy. We take turns cooking and doing dishes. We alternate and work as a team because often we are short on time. Jimmy may call from work asking for rice to be put on so when he gets home the veggies can be prepared for the stir fry. It’s those small things that help the cohesion of the marriage.

Having similar interests helps a lot with the bliss. Sara grew up playing tennis and loves to hit balls. We can go to the court and have fun hitting balls rather than always playing games to see who will win. It’s not about winning as much as it is about spending time together and laughing while sweating. Bike rides have been enjoyed in every state we have lived and we prefer riding a tandem bicycle so that we don’t have to worry about riding at different paces.

Above all else, we have centered our relationship on our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. By praying diligently for patience, kindness, love unfeigned and understanding, it keeps our focus on Him more than on us. We are united in our commitment to the Savior. We are happiest when we take the time to read scriptures together, pray together and visit church history sites as well as various temples of the Lord. We love the Lord and love to share His light to all that we come across.

What we do isn’t different than others as much as we make it our priority. By doing so, we can love deeper and more because we like one another and focus on the positives above all else. May God bless you in your relationship. If you need to talk about Christ or love, please feel free to send us a message and we will be happy to visit.
